An Evening with Prof Chen Tsuhan

Last month was the launch of our first initiative on "Engaging NTU - One College at a time". Professor Chen Tsuhan, Dean of the College of Engineering, was the guest at the fireside chat event held on 25 May, Wed, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Prof Chen did his undergraduate engineering degree at NTU (National Taiwan University) before going to CALTECH for his post graduate studies. He then spent four years working at AT&T before taking on an academic posting at CMU (Carnegie Mellon) for ten years followed by another seven years at Cornell.

Having spent time at four universities, the first question to Prof Chen was, "Can you share your alumni experience with us?" He said that as a Professor at CMU and Cornell, he was always involved in meeting up with the alumni accompanied with alumni affairs officers. His job was to update the alumni on what's going on at the Uni and see how alumni can be engaged to support the Uni.

An outcome of this input will be the plan to invite fellow alumni to join NTU COE's outreach to prospective students. " What better marketing than successful alumni sharing their experiences with prospective students instead of just having undergraduate students and faculty staff present," said Prof Chen.

One of the distinctiveness of NTU is the number of industry engagements on campus. For our next fireside chat session on 22 Jun, Wed, our guest will be Assistant Professor Yeong Wai Yee. She is a programme director at the Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP) @ NTU.

We look forward to hearing from you, meeting you at the events and having you volunteer to help us to help each other in the challenging days ahead.
